Ode to Joseph Robinette
Centrist President
Dividing line between nothing sentiments and
Talking points this country has forgotten
He’s still fit to rule, I mean
Lead, I mean
Hold the line the same way RBG did
We’ve been so busy talking about the bear, that
We forgot about the man in the White House
Held up by policy more ancient than his malarkey
Moral principle stripped away
Muscle doesn’t work that well with no skin to protect it
Prophet, high horse made of words
Of Butler and Orwell and
All of us who saw it coming, too
But it’s only ingestion of the horrors and
Pattern recognition
We’ll die of disease, or
Bombs, or
Something worse before he spends one second feeling guilty
The strength of his career is more important than
The details of the legacy
Envious of the rival, like
Wow, he can rile a room, like
Asks us why we’ve done this when we voted for him to stop it
Too much pride to step aside
They demand our vote instead of
Earn it, they
Expect it just to spite the other guy
Old man war general ‘good guy’ who
Declares genocide, I mean
Funds the oppressors, I mean
Come on, you’re seeing this, right?
At least we were on the right side of it last time
Not the first to be the worst, but
Maybe the most pressing
His hands aren’t really tied, they
Stage it for the photo shoot
This cannot continue, but
Our highest powers won’t use them
Ten men to rule them all, and
Tolkien told us what to do with them
